Is It A Good Time To Look For A Mining Job?

    Wednesday January 28, 2009

While a few years ago a mining job would certainly have been an attractive opportunity, it may not be as good an idea now if you are only just looking to get into a mining career. There will always be mining jobs of some kind available, but if you are looking for the most basic level of mining job available, you may be out of luck.

The global financial crisis has led to many mining companies having to reduce the number of staff they employ. This is not a particularly good sign for people looking to get into the industry at the very bottom. It could be motivation to train for a more specialised role, however. Specialists will often be paid more and can have better job security if their position relates to vital operational concerns. While extra training may be somewhat costly, this is often made up for with better pay over the years and more career potential.
