Is A Mining Job Stable?

    Monday January 12, 2009

A mining job can be incredibly stable, but you are better off taking steps to ensure you are needed. Workers with little experience and basic qualifications that are not essential to the operations of a mine will often be some of the first to go. Management of those individuals will also often take a hit. In order to ensure the greatest stability when working a mining job, you will want to take up a position that a mining company needs in order to keep operations running smoothly. Workplace health and safety and maintenance jobs can thus be good choices for a mining job, as long as the company is a good one.

If you just don't have the experience and training to secure your position, then watch how the mining industry is doing. Layoffs do not generally occur without reason, so watch out for poor returns and organisational troubles to work out whether your mining job could be endangered. You can then take steps to either find new employment or else you may wish to negotiate employment terms that will encourage the company to keep you on even if there are layoffs.
